Which Number Would You Rather Share?

Money, money, money.
Money, money, money.

A local radio station recently posed this question:

Would you rather publicly share your weight or how much money you make?

I have very strong opinions about weight and finances.

First of all, I think the number on a scale is kind of pointless. I mean, it’s an easy way to track weight loss if you have a significant amount to lose, but doesn’t tell the full story. My weigh has barely fluctuated in the past two years, but boy has my body changed due to diet and exercise.

As for financial info, I do feel like we’d all be better off if we were more open about money. I never know what to say when setting rates or asking for a raise. Knowing what other people make would be really helpful. That said, I don’t want to tell people how much I make. No matter if it’s too much or too little, it seems embarrassing!

Where do you stand on this? Would you rather tell the world your weight or how much you’re raking in?

An easy question for me to answer because I am ashamed of my weight and proud of my income. So I would definitely answer with my income and decline to give my weight.

I also proud of my income but people do not need to know that. They get snarky about it in all sorts of situations.

I am overweight and you can plainly see it and I’m just so over that number so I would gladly tell you my weight….if I had to!

I’m uncomfortable with both! I stay at home with my son and do a little freelancing–so I don’t make much money and I struggle with assigning value to the domestic work I do. As for my weight, I’m not proud of it and have been working on it since the beginning of time, but more recently just trying to be healthier and more active as opposed to tracking the number on a scale. That said, I would probably not dodge either question if asked directly and personally.

I’d say the thought of sharing how much I make makes me feel more squirmy than how much I weigh.
