28 Things That Will Make Your Pregnancy Better

28 Things That Will Make Your Pregnancy Better

Before we get started: I know a lot of people struggle with fertility, so I consider myself fortunate to even be pregnant in the first place. That said, I’m happy to be having this baby, but “happy” doesn’t make pregnancy any easier.

It’s been a weird time for me, bouncing between anxiety and excitement; feeling simultaneously loved and isolated; dealing with rapid body changes; not to mention the mood swings, cravings, unexpected tears, aches and pains.

Fortunately, we live in the time of Amazon Prime.

That, along with Target, my dog and my amazing husband (<<< last but certainly not least! I’m so lucky to have him!) has made the last 27 weeks so much better. I’m no pregnancy expert, but I am an expert in unearthing really great stuff that makes my life easier. Here’s what’s made pregnancy more manageable.

The best and worst things about owning an investment property.

Why Owning an Investment Property is Awesome (+ Why It’s Not)

If you’re as addicted to HGTV as I am (admit it, you are), you’ve probably considered all of the following:

1. Flipping a house.
2. Secretly buying the Property Brothers clothing in one size larger.
3. Shiplapping the shit out of your living room.
4. Buying an investment property and watching the big bucks roll in.

I’m going to focus on that last one it’s the only one I’ve actually done.

(though #2 would be really satisfying).

Buying a duplex seemed smart. It feels like cozy apartment living, but you get to make all the decisions (can I paint? Hmm… why don’t I ask myself!). You get to make it nice if you want! You can get a dog! And you get your tenants to pay for a big chunk of your mortgage. Heck, some people get tenants to pay alllll their mortgage.

What’s not to like?

How to make the perfect jean shorts.

Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know About Jorts aka Jean Shorts

Cut-offs. Jean Shorts. Jorts.

I have one summer staple that gives me style anxiety.

Jean shorts.

Or jorts. Whatever you prefer.

I prefer jorts.

Every year, I think I’ve found the perfect pair… and then no. They’re either to long, too short, too uneven (damn you, cut-offs!), too tight, too dumpy or too unflattering on my strong-but-short legs. I realize everyone’s style is different, as is everyone’s body type. But honestly, I don’t even have a clue as to what I should be looking for. At all.

So I reached out to some jort-savvy friends. I did some jort research. Based on all my findings, I think I finally have the perfect pair…. which you can see at the end.

Meet the Jortsperts

Truth be told, I haven’t purchased a pair of jean shorts since the 5th grade. Had the most amazing pair of Guess white denim shorts Read more

I’m Trying the KonMari Method & So Far, I Love It

Maybe you’ve heard of the KonMari method.

(AKA the book, The Life-Changing Method of Tidying Up.)

It’s written by Japanese tidying guru Marie Kondo, who claims not ONE of her de-cluttering clients has ever relapsed. A bold claim!

Organizing does not come easy to me. I’ll spend hours picking up. Once done, I sit back, exhale with a big ahhhhhh. Then twenty minutes later, things start collecting in places they shouldn’t. The next day, the house is messy again. That’s my life, maybe it’s yours, too.

So I decided to give Kondo’s method a try. She calls it the KonMari Method cause it’s like the Branjelina of her own name. Here’s the gist:

Tidy All At Once

She doesn’t mean do it all in a day, but do it all in a short period of time, like a few weeks. Don’t just say, “I’m going to just start with … Read more

Why paleo blogger Melissa Joulwan quit CrossFit

Why Melissa Joulwan let go of the thing that defined her

Melissa Joulwan is kind of a big deal. She’s the brains and beauty behind Clothes Make the Girl, a blog that actually has little to do with fashion and a lot to do with cooking delicious, healthy food. Her Paleo cookbooks, Well Fed & Well Fed 2, have sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

In 2008, Melissa stumbled into the world of CrossFit and fell head over toes-to-bar. When a medical condition forced her to quit a few years later, she was absolutely heartbroken. So where did a Paleo guru find solace after quitting the thing she thought defined her? In the most unlikely place. I’ll let her explain.

Let’s get down to business: What did you quit & why?

I quit CrossFit. Kicking and screaming. Because I had to. I was sad about it then, and honestly, I’m still sad about it sometimes. But … Read more
